.e ENCLOSURE REVISED POSITIONS FOR NUREG-0737 ITEMS BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT NUREG-0737, II.F.1, Attachment 2 We stated in our December 23, 1980 response that we were having difficulty in the design and procurement of equipment to adequately implement this item. We stated in our revised response on June 1,
'1981 that there is no instrumentation currently available that will fully meet the NRC requirements for sampling and analysis of plant effluents. However, as required by NUREG-0737, TVA has implemented procedures for collection and onsite analysis of iodine and particulate samples obtained by the existing effluent monitoring system. As stated in NUREG-0737 " iodine gaseous effluent monitors for the accident conditions are not considered practicable at this time.
TVA is continuing design and development of an additional system which will provide for greater accessibility and sample transport in the post-accident environment. However, we will not be able to provide the final design details by the dates previously specified in our June 1 and July 2, 1981 submittals. We have interim design details available and will provide you with final design details as they are developed.
pUREGA-0737, Item II.E.4.2 We wish to supplement our response to item II.E.4.2, position item b, presented in our December 23, 1980 letter with the following information. We have conducted an operability analysis and have determined that the purge valves are adequate for closure against DBA, LOCA forces; therefore, modification of the purge valves is not necessary. Purge valve closure, time reduction, and debris screen installation are planned during upcoming unit outages.
