Dear Mr. Cunningham:

Clinton Power Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-461 Supplemental License Application for Small Quantities of SNM On behalf of Illinois Power Company, Soyland Power Cooperative, Inc., and Western Illinois Power Cooperative, Inc., application is hereby made for a license to authorize the receipt, possession, storage, and use of small quantities of Special Nuclear Materiel contained in (a) In-Core Neutron Detectors and (b) Alpha Calibra-tion Sttndards and Check Sources.

This application is being made pursuant to the requirements of Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 70.

It is requested that the license begin September 1, 1981 and remain in effect until such ti,ae as it may be incorporated into the permanent operating license.

It is requested that this license authorize the possession of the following quantities of special nuclear material:

a)

In the In-Core Neutron Detectorc - not more than 1.0 gram U-235 at any enrichment.

b)

In the Alpha Calibration Standards and Check Sources -

not more than 15 micro-Curies of Pu-239.

Because of small quantities of material involved, it is hoped that the issuance of this license can be expedited.

We also wish an exemption from Title 10, Code of Federal Regulation, Part 75 as permitted by 10CFR75. 3,b.1.
