Subject:

Implementation of the Maine Yankee Operational Quality Assurance Program

Dear Sir:

Section II (Q.A. Program), II.C. Note 4 states that "This Program shall be applicable to those activities requiring quality assurance which occur commencing 90 davs after acceptance of the Program by the tOclear Regulatory Commission."

Because of the manpower required to support our efforts to implement design changes, largely resulting from NRC TMI requirements, procedure changes cannot be prepared, reviewed, approved, and implemented to meet this 90 day commitment.

Maine Yankee will implement the NRC approved QA Program and its implementing procedures on September 1,1981.

In the interim, we will continue implementation of the NRC at ) roved YNSD QA Topical.

We trust that this is acceptable, however, should you have any questions, please contact us.

Sincerely, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY b
