Big Rock Point Division of Reactor Licensing O g ',

US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Ziemann:

By letter dated March 7,1975, you requested water chemistry data showing the results of all analyses performed over the last year of operation. You further stated that the data should include chlorides pH conductivity and oxygen. The' attached graphs are provided to fulfill this request, i

Results are not included for primary coolant oxygen concen-trations because the primary coolant system is not sampled routinely for dissolved oxygen. Tests that have been performed in the past have yielded consistent results of 200 to 250 ppb which agree very well with General Electric's data.

The following information is to be used with the attached graphs. This information provides a chronology of plant operations which will allow you to correlate the water chemistry data with periods of operation and shutdown.

We are also attaching, for ease in understanding the data, a histogram of thermal power for the year 1974 It should be emphasized that reactor coolant is analyzed be-fore and not duripg start-up and is not analyzed during the process of shutdown. The coolant is analyzed daily while at, or greater than, 200 F and is analyzed two to three times weekly when the coolant is at ambient temperature.

(

No consumable materials and chemicals have been added to the reactor coolant during this time period.

Also, attached as requested is a copy of the ultrasonic test procedure utilized at the Big Rock Point Plant. We believe that this procedure complies with the rules of ASME Code Section III and Section XI.

The attached procedure is used by employees of Consumers Power Company.

Their qualification records are also attached.

In addition, in the past we have used qualified personnel from Southwest Research Institute to perform ultrasonic test inspections.

Yours very truly, eW RBS/smm Ralph B. Sewell Nuclear Licensing Administrator CC: JGKeppler, USNRC
