. With respect to Agreement States currently regulating operating burial g
sites, we have been and will continue to work with the States to implement Part.61 provisions on a case-by-case basis, to the extent practicable.
To assist the Agreement States in implementing the Part 61 provisions, the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors has established a Task Force which will incorporate the provisions of Part 61 into the Suggested State Regulations. NRC staff is participating in this effort.
When this SSR revision has been completed, we plan to ask each Agreement State to develop and furnish us with a time schedule for implementation.
We are presently preparing a revision of the NRC " Criteria for Guidance of States and hRC in Discontinuance of NRC Regulatory Authority and i
Assumption Thereof by States through Agreement" for public comment to reflect 10 CFR 61 and associated 10 CFR 20 change and the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 If this effort results in any changes in the information presented above, we will notify you.
If you have any questions or comments concerning this matter, please contact Kathleen Schneider or myself.
