ULNRC-2983, "Callaway Plant / Docket Number 50-483/ Designation of Radiation Protection Manager for Callaway Plant",

March 25, 1994.

Reference 1 transmitted an application for amendment to Facility Operating License Number NPF-30 for Callaway Plant.

This amendment application requested a revision to Technical Specification 6.3.1.2 to allow any one of three management personnel within the Health Physics department to be designated as.the Radiation Protection Manager (RPM) as long as that person meets or exceeds the qualifications of USNRC Regulatory Guide 1.8, September 1975, for a Radiat; Protection Manager.

Based upon discussions with the NRC on March 11 and March 30, 1994, Union Electric hereby revises our amendment request to allow personnel q

Nuclear Regulatory Commission ULRNC-2995 Page 2 This change still allows us the flexibility to rotate management personnel into the position of Superintendent, Health Physics, as long as the requirements of the RPM are met by the Supervisor, Health Physics, Operations.

By transmittal of reference 2, we have named Robert B.

Farnam, temporary E

Supervisor, Health Physics, Operations as Radiation Protection Manager.

As soon as Michael S.

Evans, Superintendent, Health Physics, meets the qualifications of Regulatory Guide 1.8, he will be appointed as RPM.

As this serves only to further restrict the flexibility requested in our original amendment request, the Safety Evaluation and Significant Hazards' Evaluation contained therein remain applicable.

This change request has been approved by the Callaway Onsite Review Committee.

Ve truly yours,-

Donald F.
