APPROVAL Of STEAM GENERATOR TUBE SUPPORT PLATE ALTERNATE PLUGGING CRITERI A FOR THE JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. 79818 AND 79819)
By letter dated February 26, 1991, you submitted a request for approval of alternate plugging criteria for steam generator tubes with cracks that are contained within the boundaries of the tube support plate.
You requested that the NRC review and approve the proposed alternate plugging criteria by April 25, 1991.
The NRC staff has performed a preliminary review of your submittal and has determined that the required review and approval cannot be accomplished by your requested date. The basis for the proposed alternate plugging criteria represents a major departure from the current staff positions on the technical bases for establishing tube plugging criteria and will require a careful review by the NRC before acceptance.
Due to the technical issues involved and the generic implications of approval, the earliest approval date is estimated to be January 31, 1992.
We will contact you if additional information is needed to complete our review.
