Dear Dr. Johnsrud:
Thank you for your interest in the issue of low-level radioactive waste stabilization.
I am enclosing copies of the two documents you requested, the Technical Position on Waste Form (Revision 1) and the Proceedings of the Workshop on Cement Stabilization of Low-Level Waste, June 1989.
The Revised Technical Position is being used by NRC to evaluate all cement stabilization lopical f(eports that are currently under review in the Division.
Two major changes from the original Technical Position are the requirements that the waste forms possess compressive strengths greater than 500 psi, increased fion thc prevjous lechnical Position, and that the vendor or the utility prepare, store, and analyze surveillance specimens of certe% waste streams to assure that the waste forms are stable after twelve montns. These requirements are expected to address some of the major concerns raised at the Workshop.
