QUARTERLY STATUS REPORT ON LICENSING ACTIONS purpose To inforri,the Commission of the status of licensing actions
- and progress achieved in meeting inventcry goals.
Discussion:
As discussed in the June 9,1989, me'aorandum to the Commission,
" Operating Reactor Licensing Actions and Technical Specification Improvements," NRR established goals to control the size and age of the licensing action inventory. These goals were that (a) the average number of inventor) actions will not exceed 25 per plant, and (b) 80 percent of the actions in the inventory will be less than 1 year old, 95 percent will be less than 2 years old, and all will be less than 3 years old.
Significant progress has been made by NRR in meeting the total inventory Goal (a) above. Goal (b) above, has not yet been achieved.
- In this paper and other status reports to the Comission, " licensing actions" refers to the total work. load of review and approval items that the staff must address as a result of licensee responses to NRC generic initiatives (rules, some bulletins, generic letters, etc.) as well as requests initiated by licensees.

I The Commissioners Chart ! reflects the active licensing action inventory; the present inventory of 1634 compares favorably with the inventory goal of 2825.
Chart 11 depicts the age of the current inventory versus the goal, as described in (b) above. Although some progress has been made, 14 percent (224 actions) of the total are older than 3 years; the goal is O percent.
For comperison, as reported in the Irevious quarterly report, the inventory was 1571 versus the present number of 1634, and the greater-than-three-years old was 251 versus 224 actions in this report.
'n summary, NRR continues to meet its goal regarding the total active inventory and will continue focusing attention on reducing the age of the actions in the inventory.
