NRC STAFF MOTION FOR ONE WEEK Q

EXTENSION OF TIME TO RESPOND TO PETITIONS TO INTERVENE AND COMMISSION OUESTIONS By Order of' October 3,1990, the Commission set the date of October 17, 1990, for the NRC Staff to file a response to the documents dated September 20,1990, entitled Comment on hup'ised No Significant Hazards Determination and Petition to U

Intervene and Request for Hearing," which were filed by Scientists and Engineers for Secure Energy, Inc. and the Shoreham Wading River Central School District, and to two questions. propounded by the Commission concerning issues raised by the filings. On 0

October 10, 1990, these petitioners filed supplements to their filings of September 20, 1990. The Staff here seeks a one week extension-of time, to October 24,1990, to respond to the September 20,1990 filings, the October 10, 1990 supplements thereto, and the Commission's questions.

The NRC Staff requests this extension of time for three reasons.

First, the Comments and Petitions are lengthy and additional time is needed to analyze and prepare a reasoned response to petitioners' arguments. Second, the Staff need more than the three working days provided in the Order to give meaningful consideration to the i

2-licensee's filing, which is not scheduled to be filed until October 12, 1990.- Third, time is required analyze, consider and respond to the petitioner's supplement of October 10, 1990, to their original comments and petitions to intervene.

The NRC Staff has communicated with the attorneys for the licensee and for the petitioners and they have informed counsel for NRC Staff that they consent to the grant of this motion.

For the above reasons, the NRC Staff requests one week extension of time until October 24,1990 to respond to the Petitions to Intervene herein and the Commission's
