Thank you for the letter dated January 7,1983 infoming us of the steps you have taken to correct the iten we brought to your attention in our letter dated December 8,1982.
Your Jaauary 7,1983 letter indicated that the statement in Appendix A of our letter Jated December 8,1982 which stated that, " Contrary to the above, one conta',ner in the shipment (Crate No. 28675) had contaminated scrap sticking out af three of eight holes in the container," was not consistent with your undarstanding. For your infomation, attached is a copy of the applicable R8Jioactive Shipment Inspection Report prepared by the State of South Carolina inspector. Section E, (Results of Inspection) of this report, is consistent with the statement nade in Appendix A of our December 8,1982 letter. We hope this infomation resolves any difr'erences of opinion regarding the status of Crate No. 28675 when it was received at the Barnwell South Carolina waste disposal site.
Prior to our review of this incident and your corrective actions, there was another incident involving a crate of low-level waste shipped from your facility.
Although this last incident did not involve HRC licensed material, we are concerned about the corrective actions taken because of the effect they will have on your waste packaging procedures. Therefore, we will conduct a review of the improvements in your waste packaging procedures and practices after your implementation of the options you select from those mentioned during the entrance interview of our January 10, 1983 inspection.
