WM. H. ZIMMER 'IUCLEAR POWER STATION UNIT I I. E. INSPECTION REPORT 81-27, ITEM #2 -

PIPE LUG ATTACHMENTS, DOCKET NO. 50-358, CONSTRUCTION PERMIT NO. CPPR-88, W.O.

  1. 57300 JOB E-5590 FII.E NO. NRC-1 Gentlemen:

This letter constitutes a follow-up to our previous response, QA-2022, dated September 30, 1982, regarding the subject item.

As stated in QA-2022, a dye penetrant examination identified twenty (20) pipe lugs as having indications requiring further evaluation.

Twenty two (22) lugs were selected because relief cuts were made in these lugs on piping elbows similar to the lug for hanger LP-K-114, originally identified by the Commission.

To resolve this condition, CG&E has dispositioned and approved the related Nonconformance Reports (NR's) and issued the necessary weld cards to properly prepare the surface for dye penetrant examination.

l However, because of the current "Show Cause and Order Immediately l

Suspending Construction," imposed by the NRC for all safety-related work, such action is not possible at this time.

CG&E plans to complete this item shortly after the Commission's concurrence with our plan to perform required surface grinding for NDE, at which time a report will be submitted.
