Subject:
Auxiliary Feedwater System Automatic Initiation and Flow Indication (TMI Action Plan Item II.E.1.2)
Dear Sir:
This letter responds to your request, Reference (c), for the status of our commitment to diversify the power source to the three AFW flow control valves and the steam admission valve to the turbine-driven pump.
Maine Yankee has installed two safety-grade solenoids for each AFW flow control valve. One solenoid receives its power from vital bus 1; the other solenoid receives its power from vital bus 3.
These control valves are designed to fail open.
The steam admission valve to the turbine-driven pump has two power sources available. The circuit for this valve is normally powered from vital bus 4.
Capability also exists to transfer this circuit by means of a local selector switch to MCC 7A which is powered from emergency bus 7.
