PURPOSE The purpose of this prececure is to describe the methodology to be followed in order to make a quick estimate of offsite radiation dose from an unplanned release of radioactive gases or liquids. Also included are guidelines for recommended offsite protective actions for the public. s 8. .,c,,.,,, O. FRE"AUTIONS This is only a cuick, conservative estimate of the offsite release 1. and is subject to revision pending a detailed evaluation of isotopic mixture and atmospheric or aquatic transport conditicns. ( The wind direction at the site dces not necessarily correspond to the 2. direction of the plume away frcm the site. E. LIMITATIONS AND ACTICNS Operating staff shall take apprcpriate actions to terminate the release. \\ 0038E 2 0006A
EPIP 350-1 Rev. 1 NOV 2 4 582 F. PROCEDURE 1. Determine activity.of erfluent release by any of the following methods: a) Gaseous Releases (1) Use attached calibraticn curves (90% Xe-133/104 Xe-135) for appropriate radiation monitor to convert CPM to uCi/cc. See Figure I or Figure II. s t (2) Request analysis of grab sample and have Health Physics staff quantify release, If ORE 0014 and 1 or 2 RTPR25 are both off scale, then use (3) procedure EPIP 360-3 to convert dose rate (mrem /h) to ? uCi/cc. b) Liquid Releases ~.(1)..In the unlikely event that the appropriate radiation e. .^. ' monitors failed'to is'olats a Lake Discharge tank release.or - -1. release from fire sump contact Health Physics Staff to immediately quantify release. i 2. Calculate the gasecus effluent release by using the following equation: R = AR x RR x T i 10' UCi/Ci where R = Release (C1) AR = Activity of release (uCi/cc) as calculated in Step F.1. ( RR = Release rate (cc/sec) See Table I below T = Time (sec) Note: Use T = 1 to calculate instantaneous release For liquid release: R = AR x Volume RELEASED (cc) 10' uCi/C1 where R = Release (C1) AR = Activity (uC1/cc) TABLE I Release Point No. of fans Release Rate (RR) Auxiliary Building 1 3.16 x 10' 2 6.32 x 10' 3 9.49 x 10' 4 1.26 x 10' 5 1.58 x 10' 6 1.90 x 10' 's, 6.8 x 10* Air Ejector Misc.
