2.

30703 - Exit Interview The inspector met with licensee representatives (denoted in paragraph 1) at the conclusion of the inspection on October 1, 1982. The scope and findings of the inspection were summarized.

3.

92713 - Independent Inspection Effort No violations were identified.

The inspection results were attained through a review of the licensee's actions relative to the handling of contaminated laundry. On September 22, 1982, the licensee received a drum of laundry back from their contract laundry service.

The drum was supposed to contain clean laundry being returned to the facility after washing. The drum was brought into building B South and the guard noticed higher than background readings on a radiation meter in the area.

Subsequent surveys of the drum and the laundry inside disclosed that the laundry was contaminated. The licensee did not have the capability to determine with what radioactive isotope the laundry was contaminated.

The licensee notified the laundry about the problem.

The laundry had other drums of contaminated clothing and towels and was engaging a consultant to identify the isotope. The licensee agreed not to dispose of the contaminated laundry until the isotope is identified.
