REEVALUATION OF EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS APPRAISAL FOR.

BEAVER VALLEY, UNIT NO.1, IN METEOROLOGY RELATED AREAS We have reviewed the licensee's actions, described in the letter from J. J. Carey to R. C. Haynes, dated May 28, 1982, which was prepared in response to the NRC Emergency Preparedness Appraisal Report dated April 28, 1982. The areas of review were Item 10 of the Significant Appraisal Findings (Appendix A), and Items 7 and 8 of Preparedness Imprwement Items (Appendix B).

'Significant Appraisal Finding #10 (outstanding Item 81-27-24)

The compensatory measures taken by the. licensee'in the forin of a new procedure for dose projection (EPP/IP-2.6.1) are acceptable. Therefore, we recommend that this item be closed out.

Preparedness Improvement Item #7 (outstanding Item 81-27-15)

The licensee has imprwed the exposure of the wind instruments at the 35-foot icvel of the primary meteorological tower by removal of obstructions near the We consider this action to be adequate and, therefore, recommend that tower.

Preparedness Improvement Item f8 (outstanding Item 81-27-16)

The licensee has utilized winds at both the 35-and 500-foot icvels to prwide dose projections in an acceptable compensatory manner (see Significant Appraisal Finding #10). Therefore, we recommend that this item be closed out.

This evaluation of the licensee's corrective actions to meteorology-related items, identified during the onsite appraisal, completes the Meteorology Section's areas of. review in the Emergency Preparedness Appraisal for Beaver Valley, Unit No.1.
