Dear Mr. Marlar:
NOTIFICATION OF NONCOMPLIANCE WITil EFFLUENT LIMITATIONS - NPDES PERMIT NO. TN0026450 - SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT Description of the discharge--Discharge No. 019 - Service building sump.
Routine monitoring samples collected on October 18 and 26 contained total suspended solids (TSS) concentrations exceeding the maximum permit limitation of 100 mg/L. The sample values are shown in 'the tabic. The daily flow volumes from DSN 019 were 240 gpd and 135 gpd.
Date Time TSS Concentrations October 14 7:30 a.m.

Cause and period of the noncompliance--The exact cause of the noncompliances '

sump area contributed excessive amounts of solids resulting in' the violations. The remodeling work has since ceased. Sample values indicated in the table show the possible duration of each noncompliance period was approximately nine days.
Steps taken to reduce, eliminate, and prevent recurrence of the noncomplying discharge--The sump was pumped out and cleaned on October 19 and 26 following each noncomplying sample to eliminate the excessive solids accumulation. Steps to control dust and other particulate matter during future remodeling work will be considered to prevent recurrence of this source of solids.
Sincerely,
.y ;
