Subject:

Submittal of Reports for the Fermi 2 Vacuum Breakers The Reference 2 letter summarized the results of stu-dies made of the Fermi 2 design basis Drywell-to-Wetwell vacuum breakers in response to a design basis LOCA.

The letter also presented the Detroit Edison

program for intended modifications to the valves to i

replace valve components calculated to exceed code S

gj allowable stresses and provided justification for CfI) interim operation in case those modifications couldn't j

be made prior to fuel load.

Subsequent to this, as documented in Reference 3, GE gave a brief presentation at a meeting with your Staff on September 9 and 10, 1982 summarizing the generic Mark I effort in developing the methodology for the analysis of the vacuum breakers.

Your Staff stated in response that they would like a report describing the methodology and the appropriate plant unique calculations.
