PEACH BOTTOM ATOMIC POWER STATION Narrative Summary of Operating Experiencas October 1982 i s i

L UNIT 2 i

The unit began the month at full power. On October 22, during a power reduction for a control rod pattern adjustment, the "A" recirculation pump was manually tripped due to a low oil level alarm. A unit shutdown was completed with the generator i being removed from ,ervice at 3:12 a.m. on October 23. An entry into the drywell w6s made and oil was added to the pump motor lower bearing. Control rod withdrawal commenced at 6:35 a.m. on e October 24 and continued until 3:07 p.m. on October 24 when, with  !

the reactor at 832 psig, the "J" main steam relief valve opened.

A reactor SCRAM occurred when the reactor vessel level dropped to 0 inches. The HPCI System was manually started before its f automatic start level of -40 inches was reached, in order to y promptly recover water level. An Unusual Event was declared because of the unplanned shutdown. The Unusual Event was y

i terminated at 5:40 p.m. on October 24. The "J" main steam relief l

valve was replaced and an inspection of its discharge piping in '

i the drywell and torus was mad 1. No structural damage was found.

( A reactor startup was begun and inerting of primary containment began after a drywell inspection at approximately 500 psig reactor pressure. A 10 hour1.157407e-4 days <br />0.00278 hours <br />1.653439e-5 weeks <br />3.805e-6 months <br /> extension had been granted by the NRC for the 90 hour0.00104 days <br />0.025 hours <br />1.488095e-4 weeks <br />3.4245e-5 months <br /> limit for opening of the primary containment i ventialation valves with the reactor pressure above 105 psig to accommodate this inspection. The Unit was returned to service on October 27 and reached full load at 3:00 p.m. on October 31.

UNIT 3 The unit began the month at full power. On October 15 reactor power was reduced for a control rod pattern adjustment and returned to full power on October 17. On October 20 the HPCI was removed from service for 16 hours1.851852e-4 days <br />0.00444 hours <br />2.645503e-5 weeks <br />6.088e-6 months <br /> to repair a steam leak on the HPCI steam supply line drain valve. Following repairs, the 1 g HPCI system was tested and returned to service. The unit ended h the month at full power.
