IMPORT OF LOW-ENRICHED URANIUM TRANSNUCLEAR j

APPLICATION ISNM82017.

On September 13, 1982, Transnuclear, Incorporated filed an application for a license to import up to 27,280.0 kilograms of low-enriched uranium, in the form of UF6 This application was published in the Federal Register on October 4,1982, with a normal period of 30 days during which a hearing or a petition to intervene might be requested.

On September 23, Transnuclear advised that an urgent need existed for this import authorization since the material must be imported immediately.

The staff has concluded that the proposed import meets the requirements of the Atomic Energy Act, as amended, and, would not be inimical to the common defense and security, or to the health and safpty of the United States.

In view of this, the staff issued this license prior to-the expiratiottof the normal 30-day period stated in the Federal Register.
