SUBJECT:
PROPOSED L] CENSE TO IMPORT U02 PELLETS FROM JAPAN (ISNM82023)
On October 1,1982, IRT Corporation applied for a license to import low enriched uranium dioxide pellets from Japan for the performance testing of a fuel rod The total pellet weight is 26 kilograms and the maximum enrichment of scar.ner.
any pellet is 4.0%.
TLe applicant has requested that the normal waiting period for issuance of the license be waived because of the urgent need for this raterial by October 4 for testing to begin.
The staff has cor,cluded that the proposed import meets the requi:
ents of the t
Atocr.ic Energy Act, as amended, and, would not be inimical to the coraon defense and security of the United States.
In view of thc above consideraticns, the staff issued the liccase without the lE-day waiting period.
