%d S4 The packaging is formed by two steel shells whose cavity is filled with 7 5/8 inches of lead.
It has a rectangular cross section of 34 1/4 inches by 32 inches and is 71 inches high. Radial fins, spaced on 2 5/8 to 2 3/4 inch centers, are welded to the 1/2 inch thick stainless steel outer.shell.
D, y The inner cavity is 17 inches by 14 3/4 inches and 52 inches long, formed by 5/8 inch thick stainless steel plate. A cruciform shaped Boral-stain-W-
less steel basket partitions the inner cavity for TRIGA fuel. Any one of 1
three other baskets containing Boral stainless steel partitions may be used to transport a variety of MIR type fuels. The lid is a recessed J
plug type lead-filled stainless steel weldment. It is provided with a I
silicone 0-ring and is secured to the cask body by twenty (20) 3/4 inch d
diameter bolts. The cask is equipped with two lifting trunnions, a A-I drain line, a relief valve and pressure line, and top and bottom impact limiters. The maximum weight of,each package is 27,340 ponnds.

(3) Drawings The packaging is constructed in accordance with Drawing Numbers REA 1038-1 through 1038-9.

Authorized Contents (1) Fresh or irradiated UO2 fuel in MTR or TRIGA fuel assemblies.
Maximum fuel loading per package is 48 TRIGA, 48 NBS, 32 HFBR or 12 MURR fuel assemblies. Full or half-full assemblies of MTR type fuel may be transported in any mixture if it fits within a basket compartment. However, if shorter fuel assem-blies are shipped, dunnage must be added so that the length of the fuel assemblies and the dunnage is within 0.5 inch of the length of the fuel for which the basket was designed.
(2) Fissile Class III Maximum number of packages per shipment is two (2).
6.
Maximum allowable decay heat is 1.73 kw.
7.
Radiation levels must meet the requirements of 49 CFR 173.393(j).
