V0GTLE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT POSTULATE MILLETT FAULT REPORT

Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

Enclosed are 20 copies of the report titled " Studies of Postulated Millett -

i Fault". prepared.in, response to the U.S.G.S. open-file report 82-156, which.

t postulates the existence of the Millett Fault near the Vogtle Plant Site.

l The results of these studies ~~ described in this report conclusively demon-l l

strate' that the Postulated Millett Fault is not capable. Therefore, it has r.o effect on the existing accepted seismic design bases of the Vogtle EIectrical. Generating Plant. The evidence suggests that~no fault is present' whhin the depth range of this' investigation 'which includes geological beds.

[

from 40.to 80 million years old. A second conclusion is that no capable fault exist'near the location of the Postulated Statesboro Fault.

We appreciate very much the support and cooperation given by the NRC's staff-l L

during this investigation. The coments and suggestions given were very =

r l

beneficial in allowing us to bring this investigation to a conclusion.-

We also would like to.thank your staff for agreeing to factor in' the expedient l,

review of this. report into their busy schedule in order that this issue can' a

l be resolved as soon as possible, t.
