20555 RE: Cancellation of NRC Hearings on Indian Point Gentlemen:
The Town Board of the Town of Yorktown, New York is extremely distressed by the discontinuation of the N.R.C. hearings on Indian Point and has passed a resolution to that effect.
We would like you to be aware of the very strong feelings within our community and the surrounding areas of this issue.
I am, therefore, enclosing a copy of that resolution herewith for your information.

Elliott Supervisor Wile REAS, the Town Board of the Town of Yorktown was distressed by the discontinuation of the !!.R.C. hearings, once again placing any resolution of the questions of safety of the Indian Point installation in limbo, and WilEREAS, no final date has been set to give the answers to these questions, NOW,111EREFORE the Town Board o f the Town o f i~orktown demands that the Indian Poi'nt nuclear plants be shut down until such time as the suspended public hearing process is reevavened and completed.
'lhe only grounds to re-open the plant shall be a conclusion demonstrating the safety of the facilities.
If the conclusions are not satisfactory the facilities should remain shut.
A satisfactory conclusion shall include an evacuation plan to be re-designed in response to the deficiencies outlined in the August 2, 1982 FEMA Interim Report as ucli as any further deficiencies uncovered as a result of the reconvened public hearings.
