Dear Mr. Novak :
Af ter discussions with the NRC staf f, Commonwealth Edison Company submitted Reference (a).
Following the NRC Commissioners' meeting on August 5, 1982, the NRC staff issued Reference (b).
The purpose of this letter is to confirm discussions today between C. W.
Schroeder o f Commonwealth Edison and Dr.
A.
Bournia of your staf f regarding the submittal date o f a report of the subject independent review o f HVAC at LaSalle.
Commonwealth Edison Company will comply with Reference (b) by submitting the results of an independent review of the HVAC l
system prior to exceeding 50% power operation.
It is currently l
expected that the C. F. Braun independent review will be completed l
by approximately October 8, 1982.
Because this date has slipped l
from the original target of September 15, 1982, Commonwealth Edison does not intend to submit a report on September 15, 1982.
C.
F. Braun has determined, however, that certain portions o f their final report are essentially complete at this time.
This includes a statement of independence, scope, work plan, experience of key personnel, etc.
In addition, they are summarizing their current status and outlook / projections.

Because this information is currently available, you may be able to expedite your review of the final report by reviewing the interim report when submitted.
