Dear Sir:

Subject:

Additional Information Package No. 4, Incore Detector System Technical Specification Changes In response to your request, Reference (c), for additional infor-mation, enclosed herein as Attachment I is a commitment to construct a core map from a video tape of the as-loaded core, and quadrant tilts based on between 17 and 12 available thimbles.

Any further questions regarding the enclosure should be directed to Mr. Richard J. Cacciapouti at our Engineering Office, 20 Turnpike Road, Westboro, Massachusetts, 01581, (617) 366-9011, Extension 2807.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONCERNING REDUCTION OF INCORE NEUTRON DETECTOR THIMBLES AT YANKEE ROWE 1.

In response to the question regarding the construction of a core map from the video tape of the core, Yankee takes the following position:

Yankee Rowe has never experienced an error in fuel loading during the course of fourteen loadings of the core. This is the result of stringent administrative procedures and controls and video tape verifications.

In addition to this, the fact that the Yankee Rowe fuel consists of two physically distinct shapes, decreases the possibility of loading errors even further.

In spite of the above, Yankee recognizes the possibility, however remote, of misloading fuel. Hence Yankee will commit to creating a video tape of the as-loaded' core and constructing a map from that tape.

This will be done by an individual who was independent of the taping.

2.

In References (d), (e) and (f) maximum LHGR and comparisons of measured and theoretical signals were submitted for the reduced compliment of detectors for various times in Cores XII and XIII. Tilt comparisons were only submitted for one case study. For the remaining case studies, a ecmparison of the relative quadrant tilt with the reduced compliment of detectors is given in Tables 1 through 5.

As with the previous data, the relative quadrant tilt is not adversely affected by a reduction in the number of thimbles from 17 to 12.

Based on these results, and those in Reference (d), the use of the INCORE tilt algorithm to monitor core tilt is still valid with a reduced compliment of detectors.
