This letter refers to the announced safety inspection conducted by Dr. Jason C. Jang of this

office on August 9-13,1993, of activities authorized by NRC License Nos. DPR-66 and

NPF-73 at the Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2, Shippingport, Pennsylvania and

to the discussion of our fimdings held by Dr. Jang with you and other members of your staff

at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection included your radioactive liquid and gaseous effluent

'

control programs as described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report which is enclosed with

this letter. During this inspection, the inspector also compared your computerized Offsite

,

Dose Calculation Manual (ODCM) calculational techniques with the NRC PCDOSE model.

Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures, and

representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.

l

Within the scope of this inspection, we noted that you maintained excellent programs for

l

radioactive liquid and gaseous effluent control, with the capabilities to protect the public

health and safety and the environment. We noted further that the responsible individuals in

Health Physics Department had excellent knowledge to implement the above programs. No

safety concerns or violations of NRC requirements were observed in your program.
