This letter refers to the announced inspection conducted by Mr. J. Carrasco and
Mr. A. Lohmeier of this office on June 28,1993, to July 2,1993, at the Chesterbrook office
and the Limerick Generating Station, Units 1 and 2, in Sanatoga, Pennsylvania. The
i
inspector discussed the results of the inspection with Mr. G. V. Cranston and other members
-
of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
This inspection focused on activities important to the pnblic health and safety and was
,

directed towards engineering and technical support with emphasis on the adequacy of selected
,
programs for plant operations including management support, interfaces with other internal
and external organizations, design modifications, experience and professional proficiency of
!
l
the engineering staff engaged in the design modifications. We also reviewed the results of
,
!
l
your NEEDS program.
,
Details on the areas examined during the inspection are described in the NRC Region I
inspection report, which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection
i
consisted of selected examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with
!
personnel, and observation by the inspector.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed. The NEEDS program was
found to be well planned and timed to minimize any adverse impact on plant operations and
plant outage activities. We noted that under your reorganized NED and Site Engineering,

leadership and operational support to the plant.
