The purpose of this letter is to grant relief f rom the full-stroke exercising requirtr=ent of the A5f'E Code for (ertain check valves at Sec t,roo t.

In a letter (NYN-91039) dated Patch 11, 1991, NHY requested relief f rorn the ASf1E Code,Section XI, Paragraph IWV-3520, " Tests for Chect Valves."

Spccifically, the relief request (V d?) concerned full-ttrete exercising of the safety injection accuraulator chect ve hes and the contined safety injection / residual heat verloval check valves.

The hht s.taff has reviewcd I;HY's request for relief and deterrnined that the code requirements are iritracticel to perforn on the atiove valves ard that your prcposed testirig will provide a reasonalle alternativo to the Code requirencnts providing the guidance providcd in Position 1 of Att achrnent I t o !!PC Generic Letter 09-Ot. is followed. 1he staff's Safety Evaluetion is cnclosed.
