REPLY TO ATTENTION OF.

g 26b 31 AUG 1983 Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhuet Director, Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 NEPA-DE-NRC-F06017-WI(83081)

Dear Mr. Eisenhuet:

The United States Environmental Protection Agency has reviewed the l Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for repair of steam generators at the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No.1, located in the Town of Two Creeks, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Electrical Power Company plans to replace major components, including tube bundles for both steam generators, during the six month refueling outage scheduled to begin September 30, 1983.

Based on our review of the DEIS, we find the steam generator repair l plan to have no significant envircnmental impacts. Therefore, we are rating the project LO-1. The rating means we lack objections (LO) to the project's environmental impact, and there is sufficient information (1) in the DEIS to assess the impact. Notice of availability of our comments will be published in the Federal Register in accordance with our responsibility, under Section 309 of the Clean Air Act, to inform the public of our views on proposed Federal actions.

Should you have any questions regarding our letter, nlease contact Mr. Wayne Elson of my staff at 312/886-8893.

Sincerely yours, t's he b d ,
