Mr. James R. Miller, Chief Operating Reactor Branch No. 3 j
Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washin5 ton DC 20555
Dear Sir:
i Radioloalcal Environmental Monitorina Specification 2.1.3.a of Appendix B to the Trojan Operating License, NPF-1, outlines procedures to be followed if allk samples cannot be obtained as specified in Table 2-2 of Appendix B.
Milk samples are currently required i
by Table 2-2 to be taken monthly from Standard Dairy (in Longview, Washing-ton), listed as Location 18.
In early August 1983, Standard Dairy ceased to be operational and from all indications will not resume operation in the forseeable future. In accordance with Specification 2.1.3.a of Appendix B of the Trojan Operating License, NPF-1, you are hereby advised that after I
August 1983, allk samples will not be taken from this sampling location.
As noted by Footnote (d) in Table 2-1 of Appendix B of the Trojan Operating License, NPF-1, Standard Dairy in Longview was a local milk processor, and thereby provided the allk shed sample for the Operational Environmental Radiological Surveillance Program. The closest milk processors to the Trojan Nuclear Plant are now located in Portland, Oregon. As a sample from a local milk processor, Portland General Electric Company (PGE) will collect a allk sample on a monthly basis from a Portland milk processor (Alpenrose Dairy), who purchased Standard Dairy and closed Standard's allk processing plant in Longview. The monthly milk sample from Alpenrose Dairy will be from a much larger allk shed than the previous sample from Standard 8309090267 830830 fo PDR ADOCK 05000344 P
