Dear Mr. Crews:
This is in response to an April 4-8, 1983, inspection by your staff and your letter, ref. (a), which contains a notice of violation. The notice of violation requires certain responses. They appear below.
The deficiency in posting a high radiation area which was the subject of the Severity V citation has been remedied by the following steps:
1.
Requirements for posting suen areas have been reviewed with the facility staff and the importance of providing markings read-able from both sides of the affected area has been stressed.
2.
New roping eyelets have been placed in the vicinity of the beam tube to allow easy placement of ropes. High radiation area signs are available for use with the ropes.
3 An extra portable sign has been provided to allow posting to be visible from either of the entrances to the reactor room.
4.
The facility staff has been instructed to check radiation levels and marking of areas each time the Mk F reactor is oper-ated with the beam tube assembly in place or with any other ar-rangement which could result in a high radiation area.
The steps described above were completed by May 10 and we feel they will prevent a recurrence of the posting deficiency.
