Review of NEDE-23785-1(P), "GESTR-LOCA and SAFER Models for Evaluation of the Loss-of-Coolant Accident, Volumes I and 11" As you know, we are continuing to review the subject documents submitted by letter dated. December 30, 1981. We have, however, completed our review to the extent that we find the Volume II, " SAFER-Long Term Inventory Model for BWR Loss-of-Coolant Analysis" acceptable for use in best estimate calcu-lations when used in conjunction with Volume I, "GESTR-LOCA--A Model for the Prediction of Fuel Rod Thermal Performance."
SAFER may not be used'as an ECCS evaluation model until an application metho-dology has been approved by the staff specifically for use with SAFER. We
- are currently reviewing an. application methodology which General Electric Conpany (GE) has proposed. A separate safety evaluation report will be pro-
