Approval Record flodel Nos. GE-21PF-1 and ll-21PF-1 Packages Docket No. 71-4909 By application dated July 20, 1983, Westinghouse Electric Corporation requested a Certificate of Compliance be issued for the D0T Specification 21PF-1 UF-6 overpack with certain modifications shown on llestinghouse Electric Corporation Drawing No. 360F05EQ01 - Sheet No.1, Rev.1; Sheet No. 2, Rev. 0; and Sheet No. 3, Rev. 7.
The packaging (flodel No. U-21PF-1) would be constructed of 304 or 304L stainless steel in lieu of carbon steel, to have a " step-up" gasketed mating surface in lieu of a " step-down" mating surface between the upper and lower half of the packaging, and a slightly stronger bottom support frame for support during carriage. The changes have resulted in a slight gross weight increase from 8,200 pounds to 8,350 pounds.
Westinghouse Electric Corporation concluded that none of the changes would have a significant effect on the results of original tests conducted on the packaging or upon the safety of the packaging.
The NRC staff is in agreement with the applicant.
