U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Transportation Certification Branch Approval Record flodel No. 500-SU Packaging Docket No. 71-9006 i

t By application dated liay 19, 1933, Autonation Industries, Inc. requested the use of auxillary shielding on the back and sides (as necessary) of the fiodel No. 500-SU source changer. As a result of radiation surveys conducted on the source changers, several packages were found to narginally meet the DOT radiation levels for normal conditions of transport. The applicant proposes to weld 1/4-inch thick steel plates to the back and sides to assure the marginal units will neet the D0T shielding requirements for the rated capacity of 120 ci of iridium 192. Also, a revised name plate has been incorporated into the package.
