Dear Mr. Seidle:
Reference 1) transmitted Inspection Report STN 50-482/83-04, to which a Notice of Violation (NOV) was attached, Kansas Gas and Electric Company's (KG E) response to the NOV was provided in Reference 2).
Reference 3) requested supplemental information concerning KGE's corrective action.
This letter provides the additional information requested in Reference 3).
Question 1: What measures have been taken or planned to assure that other vessels or equipment which may have been opened prior to the implementation of the access and cleanliness control revision to Procedure WP-VI-200 have had the necessary control applied?
KGE Response: Revised Work Procedure WP-VI-200 applies to work being performed on open vessels or equipment even if the work commenced prior to the cleanliness control revision. To assure that vessels and equipment are turned over in an acceptable clean-liness level, Quality Control Procedures QCP-VI-200 and QCP-VI-201 have been revised effective May 12, 1983, 8307120476 830701 PDR ADOCK 05000482 PDR 201 N. d Mr. W.C. Seidle KMLNRC 83-072 June 17, 1983 to require inspection and documentation of equipment cleanliness level prior to turn-over. This will also assure an acceptable cleanliness level for vessels or equipment being turned over on which work may have been completed prior to revision of WP-VI-200.
Question 2: What was the purpose of the argon purge line which was observed in the volume control tank?
KG&E Response: The argon purge line had been routed into the Volume Control Tank to provide an inert gas blanket at a nozzle to pipe weld adjacent to the tank.
