The information in SOM-II-106 is still valid. f,,* % r)k / The restson for the 600 psig sbgle pump li=it is as follows: i + 9 "The NV supplied reactor coolant pu=ps were designed to operate 3 fif' i most efficiently at the duty poir:t of four (b) pc=p operation. i,, [1[ Aay opeation of combinations of pwmps other than four (b) it-means that the pu=ps are not ope-ating at optirrum conditions. $h ' While this type of operation is not considered detrimental to tne pumps during nor=al heatup and cocidown of the plant, it should be realited that continuous operation under any mode other than four (k) pump could shcrten the ;rojected life of those components." i "NV is particularly concerned about the operation of a single purp (1/0 or 0/1 pump combination) as this is so far away from the point of best efficiency. Single pc=p operation promotes [ 3;scirculation within the i=peller passages and missatched flow and vane angles which in turn can cause localized cavitation. This localized cavitation any cause deterioration of the i pe11er vanes and shorten the projected life of the impellar. Therefore, single reactor coolant pu=p operation sheuld be restricted-as aruch as possible. In addition, should it become necessary to operste a single reactor coolant pu=p for an extended period (greater that.10 minutes), reactor coolant system pressure must be maintained at a minimu= of 6C0 psig in order to provide i a margin of safety for L*PSH requirements; and MV should be proerptly notified." 80 U-125 dated 2k March 1978, reco= sends the optistaa sequence for starting assi stopping reactor coolems pumps. It is not a limit but only a recommendation to minimi:e interr.als vent valve movement. EN-n-31, dated 20 May 197T, has been supesaded by the issuance of the Limits & Precautions document, dated 31 May 1977. SCN-U-52, dated 3 Ausust 1977, no looser applies since the plenum flow restrictor has been removed and the core installed. n ~ All time limit restrictions of 2, 3, or k pump operation, due to BPRA and CRA wear problems, have been rescinded. This is due to the removal of the ORA's and installation of the EPRA retainers. 2;
