Dear Mr. McGovern:
This is in response to Mr. Ruzicka's June 2,1983 letter informing the NRC that the Union Carbide Nuclear Reactor is changing the fuel element cladding material from Series 1100 to Serios 6061 aluminum.
The staff agrees with your conclusion that both Series 1100 and Series 6061 aluminum are high purity and meet the requirements of your technical specifications. The staff, therefore, considers this to be a 50.59 change and, as such, it should be reported in your next Annual Report to NRC.
