Dear Dr. Coffman:
The purpose of this letter is to ask you to clarify the Department of Energy's (D0E) position.
In the question and answer period at the March 2,1983 Senate Judiciary Committee hearings, you indicated that while DOE would prefer not to open any of D0E's LLW sites to commercial sector wastes, some flexibility may exist. Could you please clarify for the record what role DOE would be willing to play should states be faced with disposal capacity denied to their licensees?
A clear understanding of D0E's position would be most helpful in our l
contingency planning efforts.
Sincerely, original Signed Pf' O
