SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF JUNE 2,1983 MEETING WITH CONSUMERS POWER COMPANY RE: BIG ROCK POINT THERMAL / STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF SPENT FUEL POOL On June 2,1983, we met with representatives of Consumers Power Company (CPC) and NUS Corporation, CPC's contractor, in the NRC offices in Bethesda, Maryland. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the thermal / structural analysis of the Big Rock Point spent fuel pool. A list of the people who attended the meeting is enclosed.

A few minor concerns raised by the NRC were discussed first. These concerns were resolved and formal documentation of those resolutions will be forthcoming from the licensee.

The bulk of the meeting was spent discussing two concerns raised by the NRC regarding the analysis of thermal loads on the pool structure:

1) The appropriateness of using orthotrppic plate assumptions.
2) The appropriateness of performing the analysis in temperature steps instead of time steps.

CPC and NUS indicated that any effects on the analyses by these concerns would be insignificant. CPC agreed to prepara a written
