Dear Dr. Carbon:

First let me apologize for having to leave the ACRS Meeting early yesterday. I discovered that my 8:00 p.m. flight to Chicago was the last flight anyone bad Thursday evening and I had to be in Chicago first thing Friday morning.

I sincerely appreciated the opportunity to play a part in your review of the Clinch River project.

I've known Dr. Zudans for over 25 years and it was indeed an honor to be involved with persons of his caliber.

I hope that I was able to make a contribution.

In general, it appears as though everyone agrees that the appitcant has done a credible job in estimating seismic safety margin and that the estimates are probably conservative.

I plan to discuss Dr. Okrent's con-cern about the failure of small diameter pipes with some of my colleagues, and if anything of significance develops I'll send it along to you.

Very truly yours, 9
