CESSAR SYSTEM 80 - OPEN ITEMS i
Supplement No. I to the CESSAR SER identified "fina11 ration of the generic SCU analysis' as an open ites.
CE submitted the SCU analysis in three parts. The staff has issued a set of questions for Part I and a second combined set of questions for Parts II & III. We have now received CE's i
responses to both sets of questions. It is my under.ttanding that the staff is now satisfied with the Part I analysis and our review is near-ing completion. However, since the response to the questions on Parts II & III was only recently received, this portion of the review may not be completed in the near future. In addition, your reviewer has recently identified another question on Parts II & III which will undoubtedly further delay the completion schedule for this review.
We are currently planning to issue the CESSAR FDA in mid-June. We will not issue the FDA, however, until all open items are resolved. Therefore, you are requested to review the status of this issue and detemine if CE has provided sufficient information and our review has progressed far enough to enable useto recategorize the SCU review as a confirmatory issue. If it can be recategorized as a confimatory issue, you are requested to provide an SER input documenting this position within two weeks of the date of this memorandum.
i If the SCU review is to remain as an open item, you are requested to identify within one week of the date of this memorandum, your current schedule for completing this review. Please consider in your schedule, all reasonable means of expediting this review such as having us, our contractor, and CE meet in a working session to quickly resolve any remaining concerns. Your schedule should also indicate et what point in the review it might be possible to recategortre this issue as con-firmatory.

Y Carl Berlinger, Chief MAY 1 1983 Please note that the SCU review is now the critical path for issuing the CESSAR FDA, and the CESSAR TDA is required to support issuance of the Palo Verde OL. In order to avoid an impact on the Palo Verde OL review, I cequest that the CESSAR SCU review be given high priority attention.
