Dear Mr. Keppler:

In our response to I.E. Bulletin No. 80-08 it was stated that Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) would be employed on the containment vessel pene-tration welds.

Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) was utilized as an alterna-tive to the magnetic testing.Section III of the ASME code normally allows MT and PT to be used interchangeably, as was the case in this instance.
