NRC Letter dated March 16, 1983 to A.V. Morisi
Dear Sir:
The subject letter requested Boston Edison to verify the acceptance criteria delineated in Enclosure 3 to the letter or provide the appropriate justification for noncompliance.
Accordingly, we are providing the following information:
A.
The Pilgrim Station RCIC system has been modified such that the occur-rence of a reactor high water level signal will automatically close the RCIC turbine steam supply valve, should the valve be open.
Previously, a high water level signal tripped the RCIC turbine by actuating the turbine's trip / throttle valve.
B.
All phases of this modification were implemented in a manner consistent with the original design of the RCIC system.
Additionally, the quality i
assurance requirements of Appendix B to 10CFR50 were applied to this moo *fication. Boston Edison Category "Q" (safety related) was required by al; purchase orders for equipment.
C.
Functicnal test procedures based on Boston Edison's Nuclear Engineering Department suggested test reautrements were prepared. Functional testing was pe formed with satisfactory results.
We trust this information is responsive to your needs.
Very truly yours, O
