SUtttARY OF MEE11NG WITH GENERAL ELECTRIC URANIUM MANAGEMENT CORPORATION CONCERNING N00VLAE CAST IRON CASK DESIGN CRITERIA Attendees General Electric FCTC D. M. Dawson C. E. MacDonald H. W. Lee R. H. Odegaarden Introduction A meeting was held at Silver Spring, MD on March 20, 1983 at the request of General Electric to discuss design criteria for Nodular cast iron casks.
Discussig A conceptual design of a nodular cast iron cask and overpack as discussed in general terms. No objection to the basic concept were expressed.
General Electric was advised that the brittle fracture of nodular cast iron casks should be addressed by (1) analyzing for point of maximum stress, (2) introducing a defect, and (3) full scale test. Subsequent casting / fabrication of casks to the tested design should also be addressed.
