This report discusses the methodology, findings and corrective actions to be taken based on a human factors review of the control room. There are several areas which could not be reviewed due to the construction status of the control room. These include evaluations of lighting, environment and workspace arrangement. Categories which could not be evaluated are documented within the report and a schedule is provided for completing these aspects of the review.
A NRC letter from R Hernan to Consumers Power Company dated December 16, 1982 provided a summary of a meeting held on October 22, 1982 to discuss Dual Operator Licensing. This letter documented our commitment to provide a report describing what is being done to enhance the human factors of the control room and to document the differences between the two units control panels. The enclosed report provides this information in Section 2.1.3.
Generic Letter No 82-33 dated December 17, 1982 discusses documentation requirements for the Control Room Design Review. The enclosed report, in conjunction with our program plan report which was submitted January 15, 1982, provides this documentation.
If your Staff intends to perform a pre-implementation onsite audit, we would appreciate being informed as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made to support the audit.
The enclosed report, in conjunction with our program plan, provides the information necessary for your staff to begin their review of SER Open Item (15). Although not all elements of the CRDR have been completed, the majority of the review has been performed and plant modifications are in progress which will significantly improve the man-machine interface.
