This is in response to your letter of October 29, 1982, requesting information on nuclear waste pollution.
I have enclosed a copy of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's most recent Annual Report, that provides an overview of the agency's activities dealing with nuclear waste.
I have also attached excerpts from a December 1981 report prepared for Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratory that discuss this subject.
This report, entitled " Understanding Radioactive Waste" (PNL-3570) can be purchased by writing to the National Technical Information Service, United States Department of Commerce, 5285 Port Royal Road, Springfield, VA 22151, for $6.50.
Another useful publication that gives a general overview of nuclear waste is "A Nuclear Waste Primer", published by the League of Woman Voters of the United States, 1730 M Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036.
A copy can be purchased for $1.95.
This primer also contains a listing of publications that may be of use to you.
