Dear Dr. Uffen:
Your letter dated November 3,1982 concerning low level radioactive waste disposal regulations was referred to ne for response.
Enclosed is a copy of the final version of 10 CFR Part 61, " Licensing Requirements for Land Disposal of Radioactive Waste," and related amendments. The enclosed text is being printed in Appendix F of the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) on Part 61 (NUREG_0945) and will be forwarded to the Federal Reaister for publication as an effective rule following public notice of the FEIS. The Connission unanimously approved publication of Part 61 at an affirmation neeting October 28, 1982.
The Commission voted 3 - 2 to require Commission approval prior to issuing licenses pursuant to the new Part 61. See new Section 2.765 beginning on page 141 of the enclosed text.
