DRAFT 1998 REGION 11 INTEGRATED MATERIALS PERFORMANCE EVALUATION PROGRAM REPORT In February, a team from the Offices of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, State Programs, Region 111, and the State of Califomia, reviewed the Region ll nuclear materials program as part of the Integrated Materials Performance Evaluation Program (IMPEP), as described in the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Management Directive 5.6. Regional materials programs are evaluated every two years, under IMPEP, using five performance indicators common tc sgional and Agreement State Programs, ard additional non-common indicators specific to NRC's four regions.
Attached for your comment is the draft IMPEP report, which documents the results of the review held in your offices on February 9-13,1998. Mr. George Deegan, of this office, was the team leader for the Region 11 IMPEP review. The review team's recommendations were discussed with you, Bruce Mallett, Douglas Collins, and other regional managers on February 13,1998.
The final determination of Ril program adequacy, based on the review team's report, will be L
made by a Management Review Board (MRB) composed of NRC managers and an Agreement State Program manager who serves as a liaison to the MRB.
In accordance with procedures for implementation of IMPEP, we are providing you the draft report before submitting it to the MRB. You should review the factual correctness of this draft.
Please provide your response to me within two weeks of receiving of this letter.
The team will review the response, make any necessary changes to the report, and issue it to the MRB as a proposed final report. We will coordinate with Ril in scheduling the date for the l
ensuing MRB meeting.
