RE: Radioactive Materials Export License o~
,,a o
Dear Mr. Congdon,
i The purpose of this letter is to apply for license to export }iydrogen-3 sources that are imbedded in neutron generators. They are incorportated in a downhole instrument used to evaluate the earth's formations in oil or gas wells.
The tritium sources are acquired by Atlas Wireline Services from the Safety Light Corporation in the United States. However, the company is negotiating with Amersham located in the United Kingdom as a second I
aupplier.
The tritium sources are plated on metal discs when purchased. Atlas
{
Wireline services manufactures the neutron generators using the 10 and 20 e
curie sources for targets. Defective generators are returned to the United States for repair and return.
Import and export dates are decided by demand more often than a planned date.
The 10 and 20 curie tritium sources are sealed inside the accelerator tube.
The tube is imbedded inside of the logging instrument. The 1-11/16" o.d. and 2-3/4" o.d. tools are packed in shipping tubes. Larger tools (3-5/8" o.d.) are over packed in shipping boxes. Radiation readings are not detectable at the surface of the shipping containers.
The shippers certification for restricted articles and the bill of ladding contain this information.
